And build it up stone by stone Turn this graveyard plot into a home Oh we’ll be stronger than we were before -we’ll learn to do what we forgot Oh we could build a citadel - on this dusty vacant lot Gotta find a way to calm you down Gotta find a way to sooth you Gotta find a way to calm you down Without putting out your fire 3. CHAPEL STREET (W.Gillespie/R.Grosser) 1.This geography is unfamiliar, I'm lost I'm incomplete As the cars wait for the trams, to rattle down Chapel Street I recognised you in an instant, from behind your shades You smiled and you said politely –“you know you haven't changed". Thought you and I would never lie...again. 2. We find a coffee table and order chocolate And though I don't say the words I'm thinking ,that you still look great You keep your sunglasses on, you say the light it hurts your head You say you drank too much wine last night, that's why your eyes are red Thought you and I would never lie.....again. 3. And so in 15 minutes we try to summarize The last 15 years of our separate lives Are you married? Do you have kids? We both answered “No” “Never was the plan, still things could change – I guess you never know”. You and I could never lie..again No you and I could never lie...again. 4. You said you moved to Melbourne, about 8 years ago Me I said "I went to Sydney I'm just down here.. to play the Bert Newton show" I said "I heard about book, I read a great review” And you said "I heard your song on the radio - you know something? You still sing out of tune" No you and I could never lie...again No you and I could never lie ...again. 5. And so we talked a little ‘bout our past regrets About the mistakes we made ..and about the rest We tried to apologise for all those things we did and did not do You said your new boyfriend plays guitar in a band, “you know something? He’s a bit like you” No you and I will never lie....again No you and I will never lie .....again Yes you and I we used to share the same breath But you and I ....will never lie again. 6. You got up to go and said "I guess I should be on my way" and A tiny part of me was hoping , was hoping that you'd stay And so I walked with you up towards the Yarra And it felt strange and yet so familiar for us to be together No you and I will never lie..... again.... No you and I will never lie .....again Yes you and I we used to share the same bed But you and I will never lie …again (…could we try again? ) 8. This geography is so familiar ...mmm This geography is so familiar ..mmm As the cars wait for the trams... mmm As cars wait for the trams …on Chapel Street.

Jealous Man 07:50
JEALOUS MAN (W.Gillespie/R.Grosser) No he never was a jealous, no he never was a jealous man He just minded his business, he was just doing the best that he can 1) He wrote greeting card inscriptions, yes that was his job And he would stare into space until he found a line that he could be proud of "It's good to find a hard man", that was one of his - and then there was that Picture of two trapeze artists, flying through the air saying "We can't go on meeting like this!" But he never was a jealous - No he never was a jealous man 2) Yes he had aspirations, yes he had much bigger plans - he dreamed that One day he might own his own business, he might work for himself, selling singing telegrams And he married his sweetheart , when he was in his prime - and the Best man's speech brought the house down, but it was the groom who’d written all his best lines. But he never was a jealous -no he never was a jealous man 4) And his best man was ambitious, so he got into advertising –and one day He asked his friend for a bit of help, and his friend said “What about “Coke is the real thing?” And his best man got rich, using his friends throwaway pearls And he drove a red Porsche convertible and he was always surrounded by girls. But he never was a jealous - no he never was a jealous man He just minded his business -he was just doing the best that he can (the best that he can) 5) And his wife became discontented, she says “why can't you be more like him?” He says "I like what I do, I make people laugh, think of all the pleasure I bring!” But he never was a jealous - No he never was a jealous man He’s just doing the best that he can, the best that he can Instrumental guitar /sax 6) And one day his wife she left him, for a man who won the Pulitzer prize She said "the trouble with you dear, is that you could never tell big enough lies" No he never was a jealous – No he never was a jealous man 7) So he went to the backyard, and cut a length off the garden hose And then he went to the clothesline and took down a pair of his wife’s pantyhose And then he went to the garage and he started the car And he put on his seat belt, took a slug of Smirnoff and lit up a Cuban cigar. But he never was a jealous – No he never was a jealous man 8) Yes he'd taped up the windows ‘cos he didn't want to waste anything And then he pulled out a blank get well card and wrote "I’m into recycling" But he never was a jealous – no he never was a jealous man No he never was a jealous - no he never was a jealous man, jealous man ....Jealous man ....Jealous man ....Jealous man ....Jealous man Prologue 9)So on your next birthday, spare a thought for the greeting card king And take some time to read his lines, and smile, before you throw it into the bin. No he never was a jealous - he never was a jealous man He just minded his business - he was just doing the best that he can Jealous Man Jealous Man

about

Wayne Gillespie and Famous Blue Raincoat

Their album should have already alerted you to the fact that this is a band that knows its music history – and who wouldn’t want to name an album after a song by Leonard Cohen?

The fact that the core members have a little history themselves should also alert you to expect quality in the music that accompanies this press release – and why not?

Singer/songwriter Wayne Gillespie has been making quality music in Australia since CBS released his second album New Locations here back in 1987, and was already a favourite son back in his native New Zealand for a few years before that.

Drummer/percussionist Rob Grosser has fired the engine room of more than a few records since he emerged from Adelaide, having worked with some of Australia’s best musicians including the late Pete Wells of Rose Tattoo, Jimmy Barnes, guitarist Tim Gaze and as well as overseas artists such as Bob Margolin (ex- Muddy Waters), Jimmy Barnes and Deep Purple ‘s Jon Lord & Ian Gillian.

Wayne and Rob started jamming a couple of days a week, recording what came up and seeing where it would lead. It was a new way of writing for Wayne, accustomed to being the solo acoustic singer/songwriter with folk-rock roots, yet strapping on an electric guitar and playing along to the grooves Rob laid down made perfect sense.

The jam tracks were honed into songs as Wayne added lyrics and a few friends were called in. Such as sax player Ric Robertson (dig/eon/Baecastuff), American guitarist now Zealander Nigel Gavin, who’d played in Robert Fripp’s League Of Crafty Guitarists, bass player Goby Catt, now living in Vancouver, and another kiwi, now one of UK’s musical treasures, Brendan Power on harmonica.

So the album FRAZZ concoction of Folk/Rock/Jazz - Tracks with traces of Rock-edge, spiced with cheeky surrealism, Jazz juices, Folk reverence, African flavours, Hypnotic Grooves and Dark Tales
